Kiros WestSound Breakfast Event
"Living Our Faith, Inside and Outside of the Workplace" What’s the difference between prideful boasting and Christian humility when you’re marketing yourself or your company or negotiating a contract or a raise? The apostle Paul boasted in his weakness but, really, when was the last business plan you put together detailing your failures and shortcomings? Can you really seek first, the kingdom of God and still put food on the table? How many believers do you know who speak with a faith that can move mountains but work as if it all depends on the strength of their hands? What’s the cost of being an open, honest, Christian human being? Is it worth the risk?

Brian Whelan, Software Consultant
BKW Consulting, Inc.
Speaker Bio: Brian Whelan is a wildly inconsistent believer who brings nothing good to the table except the areas of his life he’s chosen to turn over to Christ (except when he takes them back again). He’s a child of God, a husband of 29 years, a father of 4, grandfather of 1, a former elder and deacon, and he started the first Celebrate Recovery (a Christ-centered 12 step program) on the Peninsula in 2003 at Bayside Community Church in Kingston.
Brian graduated with a Music degree in 1983, then sold sporting goods while he tried to figure out how to support a family. He became a computer programmer for Electronic Data Systems in 1988 and a software consultant for BKW Consulting, Inc. in 1999 with clients such as Boeing, WaMu/Chase, and CDG.
“My passion is for believers to live out the model, established by Jesus Christ, of strength through weakness, at home, in the office, and at church (truly, one of the toughest places to do it). That model is lived in the context of relationships; relationships between the Father, Son, and Spirit and the rest of us, believers and non-believers alike. As believers, we must be ready, willing, and able to confront and acknowledge our weaknesses so that God’s strength can be demonstrated in and through us. It takes every ounce of courage, strength and grace God can give to even attempt to “seek ye first….”"
“So, what does that look like at home, in the office, at church? I’m in no position to advise or direct but my hope and prayer is that we can generate an interesting discussion by looking at how our faith impacts our relationships and our habits inside and outside of the workplace.”
